Mom Work From Home

Have you ever heard one of your children say, "Mom work from home. Then I'll get to see you more often."

Well, with where I was heading with my work in Corporate America, I was very concerned that one day I would hear one of my children saying just that to me, "mom work from home."

So, when my first child was a baby I decided I wanted to have my own business from home. I was tired of the price I paid for working in Corporate America – primarily how much it took away from the kind of mother that I wanted to be.

Can you relate? Well, I made the decision, but it took time, mistakes and hard work to get to the point where I could actually work my home based business from home full-time.

Possibly your story is different from mine. Maybe it is similar and you're worried about one of your children saying to you "mom work from home so that I can see you more often." Either way, hopefully this information will help you in getting what you want.

The Reality of "Mom Work From Home"

Once I did get to the point where I was working my business from home full-time there were a number of realities to consider – namely my three children.

Running your business from home while your children are there can be difficult, if not impossible. So be careful. Avoid thinking that you can attend to business while your children are present, because they may need you at a moments notice.

It's that "mom work from home so I can see your more often" situation. Meaning, depending upon the age of your children and what your home business is, you may not be able to work – you’ll get too many interruptions, such as "mom, come play with me ..."

You may need to plan the hours you work your business around the schedule you have with your children.

Let’s look at some of the advantages of fulfilling that "mom work from home" desire that you and possibly your family has.

Advantages of Being A Mom Who Works From Home

1. Time: Simply put, when you have your own business from home your time is more your own. You can do what you feel you need to do when you feel you need to do it (as long as your putting healthy boundaries around "mom work from home so you can spend more time with me").

For example, do you want to get the laundry done? Then throw in a load in between work related phone calls. Or, do your children have a half-day at school every Wednesday? Then, plan you work schedule around their half-day and enjoy lunch at home with your children every Wednesday.

2. Options: With your own home business, you have far more options of how you can earn an income. You’re choosing the business versus an employer choosing you.

4. Security: You actually have more security with your own home based business. You’re not at the mercy of decisions that the management of a company make – including lay-offs.

Over the years a number of people have shared with me how courageous they think I am earning an income with my own business from home. They think that it is such a risk for me because I am a single mother of three.

I always reply, “I have more security trusting in myself, than on a group of people managing a company for shareholders.” Don’t get me wrong, I have benefited a lot over the years working for other people. I simply got to a point in my life where working for myself made more sense.
